iOS Widgets

Widgets on iOS lets you quickly access an accessory or a scene right from your Home Screen. On iOS 16 you can also add widgets to your Lock Screen.

A scene widget lets you execute a scene. Tapping on the widget opens the Home+ App and sets the scene.

An accessory widget offers two types of actions. You can configure the widget to open the app and jump right to the detail screen of the accessory. Or you can open the app and automatically toggle the state of an accessory. For example a light bulb will be turned on if it’s off, and a rolling shutter is closed when it’s open.

Home Screen Widget

  1. Long Press on your Home Screen
  2. Tap “+” to add a widget
  3. Scroll down and tap “Home+”
  4. Add an Accessory or Scene widget
  5. Tap on the widget to select a scene or accessory.

Lock Screen Widget

  1. Long Press on your Lock Screen
  2. Tap “Customize”
  3. Tap on the area where you want to have your Lock Screen Widget
  4. Scroll down and tap “Home+”
  5. Add an Accessory or Scene widget
  6. Tap on the widget to select a scene or accessory.

Limitations

Widgets do not show the current state of an accessory. The reason for that is that the widget is unable to reliable communicate with the accessory because of technical limitations on iOS. Apple is aware of this issue for years now, but do not want to fix it. (FB8434919)

Old Today Widgets are deprecated
Keep in mind that even though the old today widgets are still availble, there are not supported anymore by Apple. They might stop working in a future iOS release.
