Garage Door

Garage
Closing...

In the Apple Home app you can tap on a garage door to open and close it. When the garage door is moving, an activity indicator is shown.

HomeKit needs to know if a a garage door is fully opened or closed. If you don't have group address available for that, you should create a switch accessory instead.
Tapping on a garage door in the Apple Home app, while it is opening or closing, will first stop the garage door and then reverse its moving direction. There is currently no way to tell the Apple Home app to just stop the garage door.

For our example we are using the following group addresses.

Address Description
0/0/1 Opens (1) and closes (0) the garage door
0/1/1 State if the garage door is open (1) or closed (0).

The characteristics are then configured as follows.

Characteristic Data Type Write Read Initialize
State: Closed DPST-1-15 0/1/1 0/1/1
State: Open DPT-1 0/1/1 0/1/1
Open/Close DPT-1 0/0/1 0/0/1

There are more characteristics available, if your garage door is controlled differently.

  • Open/Stop/Close: Use this characteristic if sending the value 1 opens, stops and then closes the garage door.
  • Open and Close: Use these characteristics if you different group address to open and close the garage door.
